Excellence Awards

Clinical Practice
This award recognizes a staff nurse who has made a significant contribution to the care of children and their families, such as the development and implementation of a transition care program for cystic fibrosis patients.

Nursing Research
This award recognizes a nurse who has made a significant contribution to the well-being and health care of children and their families through active participation in a program of nursing research, such as developing a research study examining the effectiveness of CHG bathing on central line care in acute care patients.

Education
This award recognizes a nurse who has made a significant contribution to pediatric nursing as an educator, such as the development of a back-to-sleep module for a specific population that provides the opportunity for students to be involved in the development and implementation. Applicants may be in the clinical or academic setting.

Advanced Practice
This award recognizes an advanced practice nurse who has made a significant contribution to the care of children and their families, such as the development of an application or tool to monitor pain. An advanced practice nurse includes Clinical Nurse Specialists and Nurse Practitioners. 

Clinical Scholarship
This award recognizes a hospital, unit, group or agency that has contributed significantly to the well-being and health care of children and their families through the consistent application of scholarship in clinical practice, such as developing a team-based project that can be replicated in other hospitals, units, etc. Examples include bedside change-of-shift report and the establishment of family-centered rounds. 

Nominations Requirements:
  • The nominee must be a member of SPN
  • Two short narratives
  • Nominee's CV/resume
  • Two letters of recommendation

Margaret S. Miles Distinguished Service Award - Awarded in Odd Years

The Margaret S. Miles Distinguished Service Award was named after SPN's first President. It recognizes a member of SPN who has made exceptional contributions to the Society of Pediatric Nurses and to pediatric nursing. This member has demonstrated outstanding leadership, participation, and contributions toward achieving the goals of the Society of Pediatric Nurses.

Barbara Larson Humanitarian Award - Awarded in Even Years

The Barbara A. Larson Humanitarian Award is named in memory of a long-time SPN member, officer and pediatric nurse who made a significant impact on the health and well-being of children around the world. This award is given to an individual (preferably a pediatric nurse) who exemplifies the ideals, values, and commitment held by Barbara A. Larson to serve children by working to improve their health, well-being, and/or living conditions.

The winners will be recognized at the 2020 SPN Annual Conference in Anaheim, California.

Innovation Award

2022 applications are now closed.

This award aims to identify and recognize new and creative approaches, through education, support of the community, or innovative process that resulted in better quality care for children and their families. This award is intended to celebrate the efforts of a pediatric nurse, pediatric department/unit or an SPN chapter.

Requirements:
  • Submitting applicant/nominee must be an active SPN Member

Student Conference Scholarship

2022 applications are now closed.

SPN is offering five 2022 SPN Student Scholarships to support SPN student members in need. This is intended for students completing their initial nursing degree (Bachelors in Nursing) who are also SPN members.

Requirements:
  • Applicant must have completed at least one semester in an accredited baccalaureate nursing degree program with an earned GPA of at least 3.0 (by the time the application is submitted). Please Include an official transcript.
  • Proof of SPN membership
  • Completed Application and Essay
